Permadeath describes the game mechanics of a game ending after the in-game death of a player. Games that feature Permadeath don't allow to save the game whenever the player wants to. Normally the game can only be saved at quitting, while the player avatar is still alive. That very savegame can be loaded in order to continue the game. Such savegames will be deleted as soon as the player experiences the death of his avatar. This can sometimes more or less be circumvented by moving the savegame from the game's savegame location into another folder and putting it back when needed.

Examples of games featuring Permadeath are FTL, Rust, Out There - Omega.
